XII International Congress ‘Health Resort Treatment’

21 and 22 May 2026. Moscow

On 21 and 22 May 2026, the XII International Congress ‘Health Resort Treatment’ took place in Moscow. Dr. Natalia Zubareva, Director General of the National Medical Research Centre for Rehabilitation and Balneology of the Russian Ministry of Health, delivered a comprehensive presentation.

The report presented data on the current state of the health resort treatment sector. There are 198 facilities with health resort treatment status across 89 regions in the Russian Federation, hosting 1,544 springs of various mineral resources. At present, a plan has been drawn up for the further development of these resort areas, with priorities in the areas of natural resource conservation, the improvement of medical technologies, the organization and optimization of management and economics, digitalization, and the application of AI in all areas of activity.

One of the achievements can be considered the creation in Russia of the Unified Medical Information System (MIS), which allows patients to have an electronic card for health resort treatment, integrated into the social medical insurance system. For the further development and implementation of this program, 20 sanatoria are involved in various resort areas, which form part of the Working Group.

In addition, the State Register of Russian Resorts has been established, which recorded 26 million visitors to Russian resorts between 2022 and 2025, of whom 18 million were pensioners and 8 million were children.
The Congress was attended by 1,279 specialists from 113 cities in Russia and eight foreign countries.

A total of 150 papers were presented across 22 scientific sessions, reflecting the current state of the industry, its challenges and prospects for further development. At the International Session, the President of FEMTEC, Prof. Olga Surdu, delivered an online presentation titled “International and Domestic Experience in the Management of Health Resorts/Balneal Station Treatment”. Among the international participants, the presentations by colleagues from Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Iran and India are particularly worth noting.

The participation of experts in the session “The Place of Traditional Medicine Methods in Health Resort Treatment Programs” sparked a wide-ranging discussion. It should be mentioned that this year, a Department of Traditional, Integrative and Complementary Treatment Methods was established at one of the branches of the Centre for Rehabilitation and Balneology of the Russian Ministry of Health. In this regard, the presentations by Dr. Dora Pachova, Vice-President of the International Medical Homeopathic League in Bulgaria, Dr. Choi Yong Joon, Chief Physician of the Center for Eastern and European Medicine "Doctor Choi" from the People’s Republic of China, and Dr. Naushad Ali Tachaparamban, Head of the Atreya Ayurveda clinic chain from India, were of great interest.

The participants’ presentations focused heavily on issues relating to the training and retraining of staff for work in health resorts. Currently, 10,600 doctors, 27,400 paramedical staff and 768,000 employees without medical qualifications work in this sector. Specialized departments have been established in academic institutions to provide further training for staff.

In conclusion, I would like to congratulate the organizers on the excellent planning and execution of the event, and to acknowledge the high level of engagement shown by all participants.
