 Global Trends in Hydrotherapy and Climatotherapy: Exploring New Frontiers 76th FEMTEC Scientific Congress & General Assembly
The universal language of healing transcends cultures and unites nations. The 76th FEMTEC Congress, organized by the “World Federation of Hydrotherapy and Climatotherapy (FEMTEC), was held in Havana, Cuba, from October 27 to 28, 2025. This prestigious international event brought together experts, researchers, diplomats, policymakers, and healthcare professionals from across the world to exchange knowledge and experiences on the use of natural therapeutic resources for the promotion of global health and sustainable development.
This year’s congress had an important diplomatic dimension. The Ambassadors of Romania in Cuba Her Excellency Mrs. Teodora Magdalena MIRCEA, Mr. Michele Migliosi, the Chargé Affairs of the Italian Republic in Cuba, Ms Benaoyagha Okoyen Chief of Diplomatic Mission of Nigeria in Cuba participated to the Opening Ceremony of the Congress.
Her Excellency, the Ambassador of Cuba in Romania, Ms. Déborah Leticia OJEDA VALEDON facilitated the informal contact with the Director of Cuban Literature and Linguistic Institute, Ms. Lorena Hernandez, for a future FEMTEC project of an International Dictionary/Glossary of terms used in hydrotherapy and Climatotherapy.
Hosted by the Ministry of Public Health of the Republic of Cuba (MINSAP), represented by the Vice Minister, Dr. Reinol Delfín García Moreiro, the University of Medical Science of Havana, represented by the Vice Rector Dr. Nuria Rivera Martinez, by the Cuban Society of Medical Hydrology, represented by the President Dr. Ledesma Rosa Rafael, and other national scientific institutions. The congress has the academic auspices/aegis of Romanian Academy. The FEMTEC Congress served as a platform for multidisciplinary dialogue on the current state and role of hydrotherapy and climatotherapy within modern healthcare systems.
The opening session featured welcoming addresses from: Her Excellency Mrs. Teodora Magdalena MIRCEA, from Mr. Michele Migliosi Chief of Italian Diplomatic Mission, from Dr. Reinol Delfín García Moreiro, Vice Minister of Health of Cuba, and Assoc. Prof. Olga SURDU, President of FEMTEC. All speakers emphasized the importance of international collaboration in strengthening health systems.
As a result of a sustained activity prior to the congress and the involvement of the above-mentioned officials, two important MoUs were signed between MINSAP and FEMTEC and between SBRT from Romania and San Diego de los Banos, from Cuba. Another important moment of the first day of the congress was the planting of the friendship tree for the FEMTEC Garden around the world.
The second session of the first day was dedicated to the International Chair of Wellness and Medical Tourism. Prof. Fabio Esposito presented the lecture: “Physical activity, lifestyles, environment, and well-being: new insights from recent scientific evidence”and Prof. Ledesma Rosa Rafael presented: “La Hidrología Médica. Valiosa herramienta en el proceso de recuperación del post operatorio y del bienestar”.
Over the two-day program, the Congress included scientific presentations, discussions, focusing on topics such as climate medicine, spa therapy for chronic disease prevention, bioclimatology, wellness tourism, and the environmental sustainability of therapeutic resources. At this congress were present in person and online 117 participants as follows: 29 members of FEMTEC from: China, Russia, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, United States of America, Kazakhstan, 46 delegates from Latin America -Mexico, Argentina, Dominican Republic, and 34 students of the International Chair of Wellness and Medical tourism. A total of 47 original paper works were presented.
The outcomes of this 76th Congress reaffirmed the need for continued research, innovation, and educational initiatives in natural and integrative medicine, aligned with global efforts to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those assumed by World Health organisation and those related to well-being, and environmental stewardship.
The General Assembly was held in 28th October starting at 4 pm as it was scheduled. The President invited all participants to be present and the agenda was fulfilled entirely.
The next FEMTEC Congress will be held next year in France, Aix les Bains between 4th - 6th November, 2026. |
